Walk from Arnside to Grange-over-Sands - Cross Bay Walk - June 2010
The walk we did started from Arnside
(which is under an hour away by car from our lodge) where we registered with Galloways Society for the Blind (who organised this walk
for fund raising). The walk ends at Kents Bank, near Grange over Sands.
As you can see there were quite a lot of people going along. The walk takes around 3 to 4
hours, when we went there were some young people (including babes in arms) and a few much older (70+ years old). In fact our guide, Cedric Robinson MBE, is in his 70s. He has been the
Queen's Guide to the Sands for over 40 years. Above is one of the branches used by Cedric to mark a safe passage across the bay - it is extremely important to only walk over the sands with an
experienced guide. The walk is relatively easy, as it is so flat, even though it is around 8 miles. And, if you do get too tired on the walk then there is a tractor
and trailer at approximately the half way point which will give you a lift for the remainder of the journey if it all gets too much! (in the background of above photo).
The water does get a little deep at times and it can be muddy! Take old shoes and be prepared to get wet. If you would like to go on a walk across the bay and you need somewhere to stay then our
lodge is under an hour away, contact us about our self-catering in lodge in Windermere.
